Given to bawdy Irish jigs in the wee hours, the Mercantile Hotel stands within spitting distance of the southern pylon of the Harbour Bridge.
Built in 1915, this is an old style working pub, with live Irish bands EVERY night. The decor is old, the carpets threadbare. However, the tariffs are reasonable, the food basic but plentiful and the staff helpful and friendly.

Nice reflections. Now I'm thirsty. Love the tiles and the shade of green.
ReplyDeleteIs this in Kings' Cross? Probably not and I've forgotten what is where in Sydney. I remember tiles like this from my childhood and also found in a Welsh cottage I once owned.
ReplyDeleteSomehow those tiles look as though they should be on an inner wall. Emerald green to remind the customers of the Emerald Isle, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteSounds and looks like my kind of oasis. Cut my Guinness with some ale, though.
ReplyDeleteOh, love those tiles.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about the reflection picture is the rank of chairs so straight, that contrat so much with the poetical blur of the reflection on the tiles... Nice catch !
ReplyDeleteThe first shot is my favourite! Very nice line and reflection!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very inviting, although maybe a tad too cold to sit outside with a pint of Guinness.
ReplyDeleteLOvely pictures, I kove those green tiles and the reflections
ReplyDeleteExcellent distortion in the reflection. I like the way the border pattern was concealed in the first shot for a surprise entrance in the lovely detail of #2. Nice word play.
ReplyDeleteI like the tiles in this place.
ReplyDeleteMarvellous. A few years back, this used to be a regular Friday night hangout, for a while.
ReplyDeleteI like that old pub, particularly on a Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a happy place! Those polished tiles did a fantastic job of gathering in the reflections.
ReplyDeleteGreat place.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend Julie.
I am jealous of nightly Irish bands. The pub is lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! The green color is amazing. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasure to meet you ~ thanks for visiting me and telling me about your aunt's name.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty green tile and such lovely reflections. Always a pleasure to see places I'll never get to visit.
Have a blessed weekend.
I love those old tiles -- some years ago we owned a flat with a bathroom done in them.
