Spit and polish

Given to bawdy Irish jigs in the wee hours, the Mercantile Hotel stands within spitting distance of the southern pylon of the Harbour Bridge.

Built in 1915, this is an old style working pub, with live Irish bands EVERY night. The decor is old, the carpets threadbare. However, the tariffs are reasonable, the food basic but plentiful and the staff helpful and friendly.

  1. Nice reflections. Now I'm thirsty. Love the tiles and the shade of green.

  2. Is this in Kings' Cross? Probably not and I've forgotten what is where in Sydney. I remember tiles like this from my childhood and also found in a Welsh cottage I once owned.

  3. Somehow those tiles look as though they should be on an inner wall. Emerald green to remind the customers of the Emerald Isle, I suppose.

  4. Sounds and looks like my kind of oasis. Cut my Guinness with some ale, though.

  5. What I love about the reflection picture is the rank of chairs so straight, that contrat so much with the poetical blur of the reflection on the tiles... Nice catch !

  7. It looks very inviting, although maybe a tad too cold to sit outside with a pint of Guinness.

  9. Excellent distortion in the reflection. I like the way the border pattern was concealed in the first shot for a surprise entrance in the lovely detail of #2. Nice word play.
