Meandering down Heeley Street after returning my library books (and paying my fine!) I was mesmerised by the sun glinting off the waters of the harbour down below. Five Ways is my local High Street/Main Street/shopping strip. It is a delight.
The folk at Tiger Mottle were very welcoming and provided unassuming service. From the blackboard, I chose the Trout with poached egg, on a roast pumpkin pattie all on a bed of wilted spinach and avocado salsa. Very yummy, And their double ristretto on Golden Cobra beans produced a coffee so to my liking, I had two.
Right now everyone in North America is thinking of how to carve a pumpkin so it will look very scary, and you are eating pumpkin patties with trout and poached egg. I remember eating pumpkin as a very nice veggie in Oz many years ago, and, after all, we make pumpkin pie here, and eat lots of squash. Trout and a poached egg doesn't sound like a combination I'd have ever considered, although I love both individually. And wilted spinach and avocado salsa, yum!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, Julie. Very very interesting.

Sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have that area so easily accessible.
ReplyDeleteI have not long finished breakfast, and am dying of hunger again.
ReplyDeleteyes you are spoiled for choice for fine foods and coffe - as for the fine, if you are like me is is a small return on the outgoings of books borrowed.
ReplyDeleteYour photos paint the cafe in a warm, welcoming light.
ReplyDeleteDouble-shot espresso, please...
I had to give up on library books ... the fines were killing me.
ReplyDeleteI can't say more than what Kay already said. Sounds like a delicious lunch. Think I'll go make myself a coffee...
ReplyDelete[And speaking of libraries and books, how did you like Murakami?]
ahh Murakami ... I am a sponge to his sentence structures, to his brevity, to his sensibilities ... 'After Dark' is my own personal 'Fowlers'!
ReplyDeleteI have read twice and am now dipping in and annotating paragraphs. Sad, eh?
He is teaching me how to vary my style in my own language. I am learnig pacing and viewpoint and applying to the little stories in my Riff blog.
I would not give you tuppence for his storylines though ...
