Whilst displaying the bare modiucm of artistic merit, and scoring a round of zeroes from the judges for an adventurous artistic pushing of the boundaries, nevertheless, this tiled installation in the Ernest Place community area in Crows Nest (north of the harbour) is a pleasure to meander through.
The pavement tiles depicting aspects of local history and culture, were installed in 1997. The fountain, turned on in 2002, depicts marine and freshwater creatures native to local waterways.

I love the turtle, and the floor tile with bridge and boats. Yes, a very pleasant place for wandering.

Great series of beautifully colored mosaic murals.
The last photo of the undersea world gets my vote :-).
I think its sweet. At least they've tried to brighten the place up.
Having lived in Crows Nest for quite a few years I was wondering how I missed then ... then you said they were installed in 1997 which was after my time ... whew.
I am in Canberra this weekend and saw two lots of mosaic tiles ...1. drove past our old home which is looking very swish but the nasty mosaic letter box our next door neighbour created still there blighting the landscape though fading a little with age or foliage ... 2. and the war memorial Hall of Memory where the mosaics are sublime.
You captured the details beautifully, Julie. I only photographed this from a distance. The designs are quite brilliant.
What a stunning place- lovely craftwork from the mosaic makers and your good self!
