Don't even dare breathe ...

Many of these little symbols are meant to be 'universal'. I am not sure whether they are the same all over the world, but they are universally bossy!

The top photograph is in the underpass at Broadmeadow Station, Newcastle. The lower photograph is on the shores of Catalina Bay, Lake Macquarie.

This is my contribution to the Signs Signs community.

  1. I think some are universal Julie, (well, Anglo and Aussie anyways!) and guess most people could work out the rest...hopefully. Nice post.

  2. I think they're pretty much universal, Julie. Mind you, we saw a sign in China that said "Troll parking" and it confused and amused us.

  3. Hah! I love that, Kay. We have some areas here that could do with that sign!

  4. Yes, they are universal, but the "no golf" sign I have never seen here. There is no room for that in our overcrowded country, only in special places.

  5. Yup. I understood all of the universal signs. Especial the $1000 fine ;-)

  6. Is there anything you can do here?

  7. "No" must be their favorite word.

  8. I give - what can you do here!

  9. Yet you can walk dogs, which to me is one of the most antisocial things of all as a lot of people don't bother to clean up after them.

we would say 'no open fires'. leave it to you Aussies...

  11. I recognize all the signs as being here in Canada. I'm sure that instead of "naked flames" we'd say "open fires", though. :)

  12. Have a sign or ten. It might have been easier to post a sign with the activities that ARE allowed.

  15. Ha ha bossy signs. You should try the caravan parks ... they may not use universal symbols but the signs are universally bossy ... and the more they implore me to take short showers, mop the floor, not use the wash tubs for doing the dishes, turn off the lights or whatever the less inclined I am to do it.

  16. This made me smile, there's a park just outside the Beirut city limits that has way too many NOT ALLOWED signs. It's a lot like this one.

  17. I have seen nearly all of them here for what that's worth! They are bossy...especially that bottom sign with all the NOs. I think you said it all with "don't even dare to breathe!"

  18. That sure is an awful lot of red strikes for such a small sign and a pretty hefty fine..no mucking about here!!

  19. Hah! Now I am on the lookout for signs that admonish for MORE potential sins! Stay tooned ...
