This patch of shops, at the top of the Victoria Barracks rise, opposite the Paddington Town Hall, has a restraint of style that oozes moderne-street, in a laid-back gritty-minor-key.
Close to the CBD, on major public transport routes, and within cooee of pubs and cinemas, it is a delight in which to live and to play.
It looks like a nice place to walk around and take pictures. You sure took some nice ones.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting Pictures from your country...
ReplyDeleteServus and have a nice day
Kvelli from Germany
The shiny towers of the city center make a fine backdrop to the little shops of this interesting neighborhood. You never disappoint.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors and many many interesting details. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a street we have here that is located near the University. I like the name on that sign and the way it is painted really does grab one's attention.
ReplyDeleteOK. I give in. What does Spotted Magpie taste like? Probably not nice but you'll be able to see it clearly.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a neighborhood that is always re-inventing itself. Your shots of it make me want to walk there regularly to check out the shops and the folks on the street.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked Paddo, although I don't think Folkways is there anymore, which was why I started going there in the first place. What exactly is the Spotted Magpie?
ReplyDeleteBill, "Spotted Magpie" trades in pre-loved wares. "Ocularity" reminds me of Father Mulcahey in M*A*S*H.
ReplyDeleteBC, You are spot on, it is full of the idiosyncratic yet beautiful. The folks are indie ...
Ann, You are right, Folkways is long gone. I think that is now the Vinnies store.
ReplyDeleteMany of the stores in the 200m of Oxford Street between Glenmore Road and Juniper Hall are what are known as "PopUp Shops, which was a term new to me until a month or so ago. One such shop says "60 dresses, 60 tops, 60 shoes, 60 days" or something similar. I will create a post around the concept.
I like the bright spots of color.
ReplyDeleteWhat a large contrast to Athens. Looks indeed to be a joy living there - just wonder why the head looks down to the ground and whether he might be a bit tired of all the work...
ReplyDeletePlease have a nice Tuesday.
Robert, I took the photo of the shopfront quite early in the morning on the way back from my walk, and this young man was walking up a hill probably to catch a bus at the top. I had a few photos with people in them to choose from but I thought he most suited the clothing store. I do like his periwinkle shoes!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at shopfronts and signage that's a bit different.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
Can you imagine anyone wearing that check suit! As for the guy in the street he looks like he actually shops there ... well caught.
ReplyDeleteFunky Paddo. great shot of the city backdrop. The pop up shop concept sounds fun.
ReplyDeleteafter spending every saturday there for years...at the markets and catching the bus up oxford when we were still at school i was living there when i left sydney...i think it was one of the best places.
