Friday Flaneur (1) - An introduction

Being introduced to the term "flaneur" earlier this week, I have taken it to my bosom. The derived meaning by Baudelaire is most apt to my style of blogging and each Friday I will post with this in mind. My rule will be three images only (no more, no fewer), each on the same situation. To accompany this, up to 30 words of text. Herewith, my first Friday Flaneur illustrating "a person who walks the city in order to experience it".
**********

Sitting together on the bench, silently communicating their affection, they watched as busy people bustled through Martin Place to the beat of a closing summer.

  2. You've subtly caught their love for each other. I'm looking forward to your intriguing new series. (And now I know a new word, too!)

  3. Great shots Julie. I love the way you captured the interaction of the family. Coincidently I just heard the term flaneur last month and I plan on using it for some of my posts during and after my next Paris trip. :)
    It really is à propos.

  5. Firstly I had to look up Flaneur -- is says something about strolling, loafing and sauntering ... oh to be retired and not have to rush through the city.

A challenge is a fun way to extend your visual eye. Your flaneur is rather like a very short movie.

  6. A fine bit of of life seen while flaneur-ing in the city. The little girl is having a great day, Daddy looks a bit bored.

  7. This should be interesting. Thought a flaneur was a sort of dandy (sort of Brideshead revisited) who wandered the streets aimlessly, seeing and being seen.

  8. Ann, classically, yes. The French means a loafer or loiterer. But Baudelaire stretched the meaning. Read the link.

  13. This is an excellent idea for a post, Julie. It works as visual story-telling in a concise and graceful way. Can't wait to see how you explore within the parameters you've set for yourself over the coming weeks and months.
