The magic of the silver screen

Cremorne Hayden Orpheum, Military Road, Cremorne

Being a silver screen tragic, these early weeks of the new year, before the Oscars are announced, are a feast. The Oscars are scheduled for 7th March. Nominations for Best Picture are:
Avatar (*) The Blind Side
District 9 An Education
The Hurt Locker Inglorious Basterds
Precious (*) A Serious Man
Up Up in the Air (*)

I have seen the films asterisked. This coming weekend I will see "A Serious Man" and "Invictus". I must get a move on as I am only one third of the way there.

My favourite film for 2010 thus far is "Bright Star", with "Nowhere Boy" ranking next.

The Sydney French Film Festival commences (for me) on 3rd March, four films with my daughter and four films with a friend. Ahhh ... bliss ...

  1. I guess I need to get moving because I haven't seen any of them!

  2. I like how you only trapped the theater name in the shot.. I am sure I would have absorbed the entire scene, listing board and all.. I prefer your handling of the shot.. And such a nice building..

    Cheers.

  3. Looks like it's had a bright paint job since I photographed it. It was all white, a couple of years ago. Yes, the kombi on my blog is a bit different from the usual architecture and landmarks that I feature. I thought it was something unusual that needed to be recorded somewhere. Just thought I'd mix it up a bit to keep things interesting. :)

  4. I like that art deco (?) movie theatre architecture. Not many of them left in these days of multiplexes.

  5. I rarely go to a multiplex as they don't show the type of film that interests me. However, Cremorne, Roseville and the three in Paddington are just perfect for me.

  6. Ah, I, too, am crazy about film. My idea of heaven is a matinee with the entire theater to myself.

  11. I don't care about rugby, but Invictus wasn't really about it. A glorious movie, I hope you will like it as much as we did.
