'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' by Choi Jeong Hwa Part of the 17th Biennale of Sydney, this work is located in the Main Pond in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Lovely photos and nice title for the sculpture but I'm not sure if I like the actual artwork...It looks too plasticky, like one of those big red plastic tomatoes that hold ketchup!
What a surprise ... I was expecting a traditional water lily shot. This one is a glorious photo or not I like the artwork. Does it open and shut with the daylight?
It's absolutely amazing! I love the color and the way the red is reflected in the water.

ReplyDeleteHow is petal position determined?
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing lily. And what a wonderful shot. I like the mirroring of the lily on the water too.
ReplyDeleteThe color is so vivid - and I too am entranced with the way it reflects on the water!
ReplyDeleteWow this is so beautiful!

ReplyDeleteHmmmmm. Like the reflection, not sure about the artwork, though no doubt its better than some.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how I feel about the entire thing. It sure is eye-catching though.
ReplyDeletePetal position is mechanical. It is very regular and smooth ... up down up down up down ... the sequence taking about 3 minutes.
It is pretty ... but also tacky.
Great perspective with the willow in the fore.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this yet. I think it's terrific for the Biennale but wouldn't like to see it remain there permanently.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
Neat! It does seem a little plastic and odd, but also fun and silly.
ReplyDeleteWow, Julie, they must have used a lot of fertilizer on that one. When are you off to Broome?
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jim. It is a great piece of art but not a fixture I hope.
ReplyDeleteMe too - I hope it is only temporary.
ReplyDeleteBill I fly out to Broome via Perth on Tuesday 15th and return Thursday 1st. The granddaughter is due 16th July give or take 14 days.
My SiL wants her home before the finals start in RSA so that they can watch it together of the sofa each night as her mother sleeps. Boys!!
Great shots of a unique artwork. Beautiful reflection too.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth : )
