Jim, as to the why? Who knows why people collect things. Have you ever watched 'Collectors' on ABC? I am a devotee. This week spotlighted a guy who collected pegs!
The 'male' collections here are now part of the display at the Australian Technology Park, but they have probably sat in those racks for 80 years or more! The 'female' collection belongs to my grand-daughter and I.
Ah but in my family is it the man who collects the stones, feathers and shells and I am the one who loves the blacksmith's tools and the metal bits and bobs (though I only collect photos of them).
The strange thing here is that I can understand the men's collections but not the women's. Stones and shells okay but wooden pegs? I have a bag of those that I use to put out the washing. I used to be a collector but ended up with too much unrelated junk so got rid of most of it. Now I'm just a hoarder which is even worse.
*grin* ... yes, hoarding is bordering on certifiable!! Remember, the collection belongs to Alannah and I. There is no sense to it. We use all of those things to sort. We use all of the things to decorate the sand castles. We also use them to decorate cup-cakes ... getting the hang of this ... ???
I could easily tell which ones belonged to you and Alannah, and they're wonderful for a little girl. Dick and I are talking travel-to-Oz again, but still no plans. K
Julie, yes I did watch "Collectors" and I do have a few of my own collections. The reason I asked why was because some of those items seemed random and I was wondering how they were connected, which you have explained now. :)
I'm a habitual collector but as I'm getting older I wonder what for? And what am I going to with my collections? I would like to sell my stamp collection but can't be bothered doing the research so I still collect them even though I don't want them anymore.....stupid isn't it?
Depends on whether you have someone to hand it on to? Stamps and coins are not really worth much if you are just a standard collector who removes examples from letters or from pockets.
Even just today, I have been going through some of my hoarded stuff trying like the Dickens to throw some of it away. One measley rubbish bin is all I got. One ...
