I had to look that up, Madge. I had heard the expression 4-H but had no idea what it meant.
Wiki tells me it is a youth advancement group supported by the Dept of Agriculture and that the 4H stands for head, heart, hands, health.
Firstly, our Royal Easter Show is much like a State Fair. It commenced as a means for country folk to show city folk their way of life. This is the part of the show I like. I stear clear of the more commercial/fun parts of the show. I dislike them immensely.
The show is run by the Royal Agricultural Society, which is not really government, but would not survive without government. It is not exclusively only for at the young, although the young have their place as they are the farmers of the future.
To the best of my knowledge there is no 'head, heart, hands, health'. All those things are important, but our society does not focus upon them in an overt way.
The kid in the first photo was texting, so his head, heart and hands were elsewhere for starters!
Texting ... you had convinced me he was asleep on the job!
What is great about the show is how the animals are all at their groomed best. Look at the wrinkles on the face of the cow in the middle .... she could do with a face lift.
I hadn't seen that nursery rhyme before. That last photo is a winner.
