I felt ashamed that I had no idea where Fassifern was till I found it was a suburb of Lake Macquarie on the Sydney-Newcastle line. I have only travelled the line a couple of times many years ago. Now I understand the hour wait. The photo suggests that it could be a "lonely" station a little like my Bittern station on the peninsula. The trains are 30 mins apart.
...hope there's a cubby-hole for you to retreat too when waiting for a train there. It's really irksome hanging around for the next train somewhere when they only come hourly like that
I ususally enjoy hanging around on places like that, in a strange way it feels like being on a shore by the sea. Not a border, but a place to go further from. Lots of interresing details to be found as well, that tells about peoples lifes - at present, but somtimes even in the past. I like your picture. Wish you a nice weekend :)
Mine - Sitting at the last bus stop at Circular Quay, on the Quay side just near the lights. Reflections are in a bus window. Had to scramble to get the camera out before it drove off.
To answer your question from Taphophile Tragics - yes I pretty much do have drawers of negatives, or rather a plastic bag full of them on a shelf in a cupboard. I suspect I've misplaced some over the years as well. I have drawers, cupboards and shelves loaded to the gills with photo albums. I dream of one day having the time to scan them all. I did price getting the negatives scanned but it was exhorbitant so its a DIY job. Taphophile was an incentive to scan some of the photos. Trouble is you don't just scan them, you have to put them through something like Lightroom or Photoshop to make them useable. Its terribly time consuming. When I win the lottery.
Well you'd be hard pressed to get many more different patterned horizontal lines all in the one image if you tried Julie, nicely topped off with a row of verticals and arches, translated perfectly in B&W..well worth the missed train I'd say!
Ah the joys of the intercity trains ... an hour between trips. Too often as a weekday commuter I have seen the rear end of the train I planned to catch disappearing out the station ... Unlike bradcatt I didn't see it as an unexpected gift of time.
Love the many textures in this B&W, Julie.

Nice post, - perfect for B&W Weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pain to miss a train! The textures are nicely organized just waiting for your catch!
ReplyDeleteAn hour is a long time to wait but allows time to explore with your camera.

ReplyDeleteA few drips with that white paint. Waiting has its benefits. Underrated.

ReplyDeleteCarrying a camera does help us fill unexpected gifts of time like this. Well done, Julie.
ReplyDeleteLots of geometric shapes in this one. I really like the contrast of stuff in it.
