An earnest folk-singer, in cavernous Martin Place, competes with a “burger with-the-lot”, for the attention of lunch time strollers. Better were she a plate juggling sword swallower, than guitar player.
Flaneur (n). A person who strolls the city in order to appreciate it. |
Are YOU a flaneur - a la Baudelaire or Sontag? |
I wonder what she is singing. She looks quite serious!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of a beautiful girl gripped in the fist of her art. Sontag, I think. And you?
ReplyDeleteDid you like her singing or would you rather enjoy try to enjoy your burger in peace? You did a fine job of capturing her. She could do well to use your post for promotion.
ReplyDeleteWhat a marvelous portrait and the color is wonderful . Oui je suis une flanuer!
ReplyDeleteStrong personality, I think.
ReplyDeleteI am definately a Flaneur
ReplyDeleteExcellent captures Julie.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
She does look into it :) Nice shots Julie !
ReplyDeleteNicely capture. I can just hear her.
ReplyDeleteShe has a good backdrop with the Matrix fountain. I don't know what it's really called; I just call it that because it appeared in the Matrix movies.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
I an definately a Flaneur. These photos have such beautiful colour.
ReplyDeleteJim, I am not sure if this is the official name, but according to the website of Waterforms who undertook the refurbishment in 1997, it is the Lloyd Rees Memorial Fountain.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that just playing guitar might have worked better.
ReplyDeleteJugglers are fine, but I'd be just as happy to hear a guitar and song.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have gutar players decorating our streets rather than sword swallowers.
ReplyDeleteLove her portrait (s) - you've really captured her intensity and emotion. She's well set up with electricity it seems, microphone - electric guitar.
ReplyDeleteDoes the driving count too? I'm definitely a flaneur... in European cities I tend to stroll, while in Seattle I used to drive around its hilly neighborhoods... just because :).
ReplyDeleteOnce and always a flaneur - a la Baudelaire and a la Sontag - I'm drawn to your candor, your unflinching shutter, your twinge of humor.
ReplyDeleteDavis, I am drawn to comments like that. But you only list Twitter!
ReplyDeleteBC, I shall address your Sontag query in next week's Flaneur post.
Mirela (and others), I am not convinced that I driver can be a flaneur, although I accept that YOU may think that. Being a flaneur requires being immersed, thoughtful, and sauntering.
Would have very much enjoyed coming upon this songster. Think I am a flaneur but need to do some more reading on it...
ReplyDeleteJ'aime bien cette série d'une jolie musicienne!!
ReplyDeleteBye Julie
Merci Serge. J'ai aussi un musicien pour la semaine prochaine.
ReplyDeleteI'm a flaneur in the bush but not really in the city. I like the top shot with the fountain in the background.
