Skywatch - Centrepoint

Centrepoint dominates the skyline of the city. Being such an obvious symbol of the city, it is a challenge to showcase it in a different light, so to speak. The lead image depicts the nightly migration of the Botanic Garden bat colony, thousands of them!

  1. Indeed you have showcased it in a different light. Wonderful photographs but I particularly like the first with the birds flying about it. The view from the top must be stunning.

  2. Each of these images has its own distinct voice and together they tell a complex story about this tower.

  3. You sure found some new angles here.

Are some of those birds bats?

  4. You've done a great job, though! I like the first one the best, but I'm a sucker for silhouettes. This tower reminds me a lot of our Space Needle.

  10. Dina (and others) all of those birds are bats. I have adjusted the text to indicate that this swarm is but just a small part of the nightly swarm which occurs just on sunset, currently 630 to about 830. The sky is awash with circling bats.

  17. These are all soooo good! You have, indeed, captured various moods and light. The flight of the bats is awesome! One must feel small standing below those buildings while looking up with a camera!

  19. I love the sky in the first one, but the view of the tower int he second one is great. And the lines in the last one, reminds me a little of string art!

  20. Without a doubt, the top photo is the stand out one here. Everything about it is brilliant. Colour, art factor, composition, everything. Love it!

  21. Really imaginative compositions, especially the one with the matchsticks. I walk past two of these locations all the time and those shots have never occurred to me.

  24. No matter how much an icon is photographed there is still a challenge for the next photographer ... I think you have captured something quite different with the first shot ... very nice indeed.

  25. The first photograph is breathtaking mate! :) Seeing your interest in 'not the obvious' stuff, here is a competition you may be interested to participate in document through photographs - check out the Cabbie-oke karaoke going on in the streets of Sydney and Melbourne this weekend :)

  26. Amazing to see a bat colony right in the middle of a big city. What's there to eat I wonder? As usual great photography, Julie.
