Victoria Barracks


Victoria Barracks is an active army barracks in the heart of the city of Sydney. It is listed by the National Trust. The barracks and its sandstone wall enclosure was commenced in 1840 and replaced the original barracks for the colony which were on the site of Wynyard Station.

Victoria Barracks is open for guided tours each Thursday from 10am.

Still in use since the 19th century? Super. In Canada they'd have knocked it down and put up a skyscraper. Oh, okay, unfair to Canada in general. "In some places..." is better.

The angle combined with the band of columns makes for a very interesting photo. The roof's shadow almost makes the top floor of columns look like pencil points.

At first I thougt it looks like a gate about an river. But as barrack it is interesting, and in a city it's certanly good motive...
