Well, if I am going to have a tantie over the crassness of New Year's Eve, this might as well be the mountain I wait it out on. This is known as 'eco-tourism' and I suspect it is not for the shallow of pocket.
This is O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat in the middle of The Lamington National Park which is on the border of the states of NSW and Queensland. It is named after a Governor of QLD in the '20s whose wife liked to cook cakes. Maybe ...

gorgeous, particularly your lead shot. looks like a fabulous place to wait out just about anything. especially if some one around there still likes making cake.
Fantastic, it can't be nicer.
I think you're right. Eco-tourism for those with shallow pockets is probably called tenting.
Took me a second to figure out "tantie" until I remembered being in Australia when bikers were bikies and surfers were surfies, so a tantie had to, therefore, be a tantrum. :)
I got a bit behind on everyone's blogs because we were in Hawaii and I had a bad cold/flu/plague thing, so have just been scrolling back and reached your cormorant aerobatic display, with ships taking "coals to Newcastle"! Wonderful.
And I learned a new word, one I think I should have known because, when I was young, part of my job with the daily Vancouver Sun was making up the list of ships in port, many of whom were at anchor awaiting a berth.
Gorgeous photos of the very green Lamington, and what a beautiful view!

Kay: I do like to leave my readers just a little work to do. You are spot on with the tantrum. Having read a couple of your recent posts, I knew you had the plague!
BC: Oh, so many cakes, one would think a French Queen had visited.
That looks so luscious and refreshing. Here in the New York area everything is white and the winds are still howling.
I've just found your blog. When I look at it, I feel the magic all around me. Beautiful photos! I'm an exchange student from Poland to Merriwa, NSW and I go to Newcastle very often - I'm going to Redhead beach in 3 days time. I've also been to Sydney... You've created a totally different view at those places. Thank you!
Having a lot of trouble commenting on your blog today. Will try again.
Was wondering how you were going in all that rain. It is still amazingly beautiful up there. I really like O'Reillys enven though it is expensive. Only ever spent a week there in the cheapest room. Have you seen the glorious black and yellow Regent Bower Bird or is it too wet.
Wonderful shots.
Ann: Not seen the RBB as yet. There is a bird-walk each morning, but the wind was whistling and the rain sleeting this morning. Shall see what the morrow brings.
Watch out for the leeches!
Sooooooo green compared to all the whiteness here in the Northeast. Happy New Year!
I think O'Reilliys is great ,.. though I remember the access road was a bit hairy in parts. You've gone to Queensland in the summer ... I avoid it like the plague at that time of year ,,, much too hot and steamy for me.
But I am 3,000 feet up. But you are right about the access road - but someone else drove, not I.
Love the intensity of colors in the photos. They are breathtaking.
Beautiful country!!!
such wonderful photos, the faces... such stories.
The weather is improving with each sunrise. I look out this morning and the sky is a deep clear blue with nary a cloud.
