Theme Day: Looking forward to romanticism

What a way to spend the final day of 2010!
They zoomed through the air
With the greatest of ease
Those daring young things
On their flying trapeze.

Actually, here in OZ we call this a 'flying fox'. Other folks refer to it as a 'zip line'. One expression is romantic, the other prosaic.

Have a romantic 2011.

Oh exciting shots!
I remember the fear of jumping off the tower and then flying down the zipline in Arkansas. But flying fox sounds much better.
Here's to a year of romanticism!

Julie, we call them zip lines, too. My husband has done it but I'm a coward. I could enjoy zipping through the air, but getting up to the jumping-off place would be beyond me, and jumping off would be impossible.
Great photos. That couldn't be you in the first photo, could it?
What an exciting way to start a year, however.

Hah! Would that it was me, Kay. But no, the clamber back up each time would be too hard for me, but I also think that the fly through the air would do my ailing brain in, and I would probably lose consiousness. It was a challenge for me to watch, but lucky that I was prone on a grassy hillside. I did thoroughly enjoy it, though.

Oh what fun. Super shots Julie. I love it when people have a go and don't grow up.

Thank you for the wish!
Thank you for your support and your great photography and storytelling throughout the past year and let the inspiration be with you in the New Year too!
Have a great 2011, as romantic as it can possibly be!

I checked the definition to find out what type of year you were really wishing me. I found "fanciful; marvelous; extravagant; unreal". Sounds good.

What a great story... I did a zip-line with my sister at Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica and we screamed like little girls on the first "zip" - I would do it again in a heartbeat... what a thrill!

I wish for you a wonderful 2011,
Genie

It is a zip line in Oklahoma. Thanks for your great blog in 2010 and all the best for 2011

I don't know if I'd do that or not. It's available near where we'll be in Costa Rica in a couple of Weeks. I suppose it's time to find out.

Just because I have a too much time on my hands, I'm starting a new one-year blog on New Year's Day, http://downtownstlouis365.blogspot.com/.

By the way, I put the color version of the picture you were interested in on Flickr this morning, my time.

One year blogs are a challenge, Bob - but immensely worthwhile. I will check it out AND the flowers.

Perhaps my 2011 goal can be to ride of of these contraptions. Leave my fears on the ground and SOAR. What energy in this picture.

Here's to another great year of blogging!

Well, I can admire those who venture out to do this without wanting to do it myself. Nice images.

The other day I mentioned the Kew Gardens on the 'Walking the Canopy' post; well, today I have to tell you I experienced this 'above the canopy' thing in the rain forest (really high) and I just loved the feeling and the bird's (and monkey's and sloth's and...) eye view at the rainforest in Argentina. Everyone should do it! :-)

The best for 2011 too!

I am not so sure about the movement in a Flying-Fox. Humans crave movement and speed and the power to overview our world. I am more the type of person who wanders the forest floor, bent over looking at small things. I can walk down a track for two hours, absolutely mesmerised, yet when I have to walk but up the track (UP) it only takes 15 minutes. That has happened nearly every day of this week just gone.

I guess it is a case of 'to each his own'.

Julie said...

Oops ... and thank you one and all for the New Year wishes. Hopefully, I will get to each of your blogs before 2nd Jan is over.

Joan - I like that definition of 'romantic'.

Diane - Wed, Thurs, Fri were all rainfree this week up here. It is wet again this Sunday morning.

Belated happy New Year. May 2011, be healthy, happy and peaceful.

I thought that was you at first glance. Don't know whether or not I'd do it.
