Coming up to 8:30 on a Sunday morning in late summer, with the mercury already edging its way up to to the forecast 31C. The morning after a breathless, heavy night.
One pack rounds Busby's Lake, keeping beneath the shade cast by the she-oaks. The pounding of the other pack is felt as it breasts the rise up Snake Bank, lined with palms. Lean bodies trickle sweat.
I slink back into the shadow of the melaleuca, stretching my cotton top to cover flab, puffing from the sheer exertion of breathing, waiting for youth to pass.

"waiting for youth to pass"...now there's a phrase that could take you a hundred different places, julie.
Is it possible we will each travel to France from our far flung corners of the globe, be there at the same time, and not meet?
Love this post and the name of it.
Seems like a wonderful morning.
The title is perfect. So are your phtographs.

Ouch. At one time I might have been able to do this, but never in 31C temps. 21C sounds much better. The healthy young people look super, though.
What's this Brattcat says about you going to France? When? We'll be in Paris at the end of next month, then the south of France. They should post a warning: "Beware, bloggers on board"!

Looks like a perfect day for a long, sweaty run in the park! Quite different from the HUGE snow blizzard which just started this morning over here..... 50 cm of snow predicted thru tomorrow! Trade ya!
"Waiting for youth to pass" now did I catch a glimpse of a few ~not so young~ bodies in that pack!!
must go back and check it out.
Not my idea of fun. Was in town on Saturday night and it wasn't any cooler by the time the morning came. I want a storm, a proper Sydney southerly buster.
Another great post from Julie. You are an original thinker.
Fabulous post - love the energy and love seeing that it is summer somewhere! A lot of skinny people!
Not the best day for a run yesterday. The heat was stifling.
I enjoy my 10 km walk in the mornings hence no embarassing flab :-).
He he .. love the last paragraph though it beats me where the flab is on your body. Sunday was quite pleasant here in comparison to Saturday. Especially like the second shot, the way the shadows frame the runners.
