Paddington Posters (1) - Underwood Street

Underwood Street (which is parallel to Oxford Street) crosses William Street a block to the north. It is a narrow jaggy street, but that is not unique in Paddington. On one corner sits a laundromat, and on another a pub, The London.

The laundromat is in a two storey, non-descript terrace building, plentiful in Paddington, which probably dates from the 1880s. Beside the laundromat, is a barely sign-posted graffic design studio.

I gather that commissions are scarce, and income borderline.

Laundromat and pub both present a risk for drowning!

I love finding little gems like these

I used to think I'd enjoy graphic design but I'm glad I never tried it. There must be many in every city whose incomes are borderline.
Fascinating photo, Julie.

Wonderful! I like such a dark sense of humour.

I do like this type of stencil art even when it often appears as graffiti.

Jim, there is graffiti and there is graffiti. I am wandering the streets, finding the type of graffiti that shows technical ability and intelligent comment. There is much about.

Nice bit of graffiti art.

Really strong image, both by you and whoever stenciled the wall. It's just damn hard to make a living from art. The market, frankly, isn't that big and the competition is enormous.

Maybe they are positioning themselves in a "macabre" niche that just isn't cutting it in Sydney:-) I really like this stencil, mind.

I thought we must be in Avignon, where Nathalie shows examples such as this. I love street art when it's like this.

A very unique artwork and advertising logo. Certainly eye catching.

I thought it was good graffiti but it is actually design.

I find this bit of art/graffiti/design rather haunting.

I guess that is how the designer will look if he doesn't get work.
