This is one of my favourite lunchtime walks. Sadly won't be doing this for a while after I fractured my leg and elbow this week in a fall. My posting has been erratic and couldn't do any commenting. Have got a shot I've been saving for tomorrow's theme day.
I read a book about composition when I was back in Melbourne. It included a list of exercises, one of which was called "Signs that make a point". I found the brief online just now and it seems yours is the perfect photo that eluded me at the time...!
"This exercise is intended to provide experience at experimenting with metaphor by integrating objects with their visual settings.
Look for a theme and then find a sign that best interprets your theme. Then assess if the things surrounding the sign relate to it. Try to capture the sign and the surroundings"

They came in from the other side of the field.
Notice that they are all men. Men don't read signs.
Just finished devouring the Olley post. I learned so much. Great write-up. They should have asked you to write the obit.
These guys seem a million miles away, from that eccentric world of art, galleries, and terraces...don't they!
