Theme Day - The colour green

The colour green symbolises so much more! There are two main figurative uses to which 'green' is put in western society: immaturity, and the environment.

Today, 1st July, is a 'red-letter-day' for the environmental movement in Australia. From today, in our national capital, Canberra, The Greens hold the 'balance of power' in the upper house of our federal parliament, The Senate. The conservative parties will have 34 senators, there will be two independent senators, the progressive party will have 31 senators and The Greens will have 9 senators.

This will make the next four years fascinating!

The first of the month is Theme Day for the CDPB community. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

Green is great! (Except in bananas, LOL.)
Wow, I'm impressed with Australia. Good for the Greens. I hope they do well.
Our government consists of neo-conservatives modeled on the American Republican party a la George Bush, which is very sad and very bad. Canada's international reputation is bottoming out.
I think I'll move to Oz.
Luv, K

I love this composition, Julie! And thanks to you and to the +10 hours in your part of the world, I was reminded that tomorrow is theme day! :-)

You have to wait some days until you can eat the bananas :)
I want to inform you that your link didn't work on City Daily page.

Fascinating or very tricky.
Kermit knew what he was talking about - it ain't easy being green.

Green can be flourishing too!
Your bananas are an echo to your yesterday's hammocks!

Yes, Therese, thank you. I thought it might be only I who recognised that.

Yes I heard Bob Brown being interviewed on the radio yesterday. He's got his work cut out for him, hasn't he? I am reminded of that song by Stealer's Wheel.

'Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle with you' ... I am not a Green voter, but I watched the entirety of his Press Club address. I like the fact that the Greens force a 'conversation' and real negotiation. They didn't do this during 2009, which I have a sneaking feeling they regret. Maybe it was just Rudd's intransigence.

Bob Brown and the Greens in power they'll have us all living in caves very scary indeed :-(.

Your post is a conversation starter, Julie. The fruit that's usually associated with The Greens is a watermelon because some critics (not me) suggest that they're green on the outside but red on the inside.

Bob Brown is a marvelous, committed guy! I used to live down the road from his property in Tasmania! Met him informally several times! Always thinking about the welfare of our country! Great man!

Jim, That watermelon image is yet another 'three word slogan' - a witty one, but nonetheless, preaching to old ideologies.

Gemma, I try not to look at the people involved, but rather to what policies they can debate with conviction. I think all three main political leaders have strengths and have weaknesses in their political manifestation. Whether they are female, gay, or wear lycra does not involve me. I want to know about food, water, housing, education, balance of payments, climate change, transport. That sort of thing.

But now I need to go hang out the washing ... *grin* ...

I like the picture with only a shade of green and Dylan's word seems perfect for so many countries...

Julie I not only enjoyed you (yellowish) green post today, I went back to a good number of other posts I hadn't had time to read before and just loved what I saw. The redcoats and convicts festival posts were fascinating. I remember visiting the museum but seeing the place come alive is different again.

I'm frightfully busy and summer tends to draw me outdoors but I hope to come back and read your blog more regularly, it truly is excellent!

And regarding the comment you left on my blog today, yes you're right and my message in French had a twist that it didn't have in English : "Green is the colour code for all things supposedly environmentally friendly".
The effectiveness of some can rightfully be challenged.

I went to a meeting last week regarding the proposed tram line and one person in the public said trams are a fad and there are other 'greener' options available for city transport (he gave several examples in foreign countries). But the mayor's answer was that WHETHER there will be a tram is no longer open for debate, the budget has been voted. The only question now is which route it will follow and where the stops will be. We may find out later that it wasn't the best option at all!!!

a clever choice for green and at last, a food photo that does not have me salivating...i prefer my bananas a bit more ripe.

Did you buy those bananas? The price of them at the moment is astounding.

As for the Greens if they get their way a lot more prices will be astounding. So I have my doubts we will see them there for 4 years ... double dissolution time coming up.

Now I have been reminded its Theme day, must go find something green.
