Legbone connected to the jawbone

This is my daughter, Kirsten, and her family. These shots were taken whilst they cycled around parts of the state of Tasmania during Easter 2011. At that stage, they were oblivious to the ameloblastoma pedaling with them.

Kirsten is in an induced coma for the next 12 hours or so. There are tubes everywhere. She did not need any blood transfusions but took 4 litres of fluid and is quite puffy. Her vitals are strong, with maybe her heart a bit fast. The nurse on duty when my son-in-law visited just now, was happy both with Kirsten's colour and with the colour of her new new jawbone.

Kirsten has been writing a blog to help her understand what was happening to her and how it was going to be 'fixed'. When she googled she could not find enough 'reliable' and detailed information, and she thrives on information-overload (she has law degrees). So, for herself, and for future sufferers, she started a blog. There is one particular post which is a good summary: http://marsupialmum.wordpress.com/2011/07/20/reconstruction/

Having read that, you are welcome to go to 'Home' and follow the postings by her husband, Darren. Kirsten hopes to post from her ICU bed by week's end. I hope she does, too. She is one courageous woman. Her father and I hope to catch a glimpse of her tomorrow afternoon.

Julie, I came over today to see what you did for the August theme day, so I have not seen previous posts about your daughter's health problem. So sorry to read about it. I hope she recovers fully. It does make the issue of pretty photographs pale in comparison.

i agree with Jack. Their are moments in life that are so dramatic that everything else seem superfluous. I'm rooting for her during these next few days, hoping that the outcome is positive and as to be expected. What courage you all have!!

Julie, these photos are wonderful. That second one should be printed and framed and put beside Kirsten's bed so the nurses, etc., know exactly with whom they are dealing!

Like the rest of your community Julie, I'll be thinking of you and your family over the coming days. It's kind of a relief - the waiting is over and now the recovery begins. The two photos today are beautiful - the second one a classic!

beautiful, brave, brilliant girl. we are sending her light from all over the world. when you combine that with her own light and the light of those near and dear to her, this is a girl who is being held in something as powerful, in its way, as the sun.

I agree, BC. The warmth from friends, acquaintances, and strangers can work miracles when applied in a supportive way. Thank you.

Dear sweet Julie, there is nothing like the pain to a mum for a daughter or son, and I know you are suffering alongside her. I left her a message and will be checking in on her. Blessings and wishes for a full recovery.

They are a beautiful family and not just on the outside.

Bises,
Genie

The comparison with the woman I sat with in hospital last evening is mind-numbing, Jose. I will get this image printed up and put down the end of her hospital bed. Today!
