We don't call them brasseries, of course. That would be too 'try hard'. But, as a society, we do have the tendencies of a Bower Bird. This is 'The Courtyard Cafe', aka Da Capo.
It is within, and surrounded by, Sydney Hospital on Macquarie Street. The buildings I show you here are not the original Governor Macquarie inspired structure (the "Rum Hospital') from 1816. Nah! They were condemned and demolished in 1876. What I show you here dates from the 1894 rebuild.
You may think this to be out-of-the-way, but for me it is like the centre of the universe. Remember, how in old textbooks, they used expressions like 'the trading routes of Asia' when referring to blokes like Ghenghis Kahn and Marco Polo? This cafe is on my trading routes. Just up from Martin Place metro. On the way to the Art Gallery, and a short stroll to Dendy Quays cinema.

Truly a beautiful spot, all the better for being hidden.
Really beautiful! Great light Julie.
Très raffiné.
I shall think of my regular routes as my very own "trading routes through Asia" from now on.
It looks a trendy cafe and the matching lace work on the buildings is interesting.
I really like walking through this spot. Should sit down and have a coffee one day.
Coffee and their food ... both great.
Fabulous, Julie.

I have walked past here many times when in Sydney Julie, so next time I now know to get off the beaten tourist track and drop in. Thanks for the tip.
I like this spot too. It's unexpected and a nice courtyard and has that interesting fountain in the middle. This is the part of Sydney I frequent .. the State Library where I can settle down an work when waiting for hubbie or whatever.
