These lads were walking across the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House, at the top of the front steps, when on a whim, they looked at the world inverted. I guess because they could. The image below is looking toward the northern end of George Street where the Cahill Expressway crosses over near the site of Sydney's original gaol and army barracks, long since gone. The area is known as The Rocks. |
The City Daily Photo community holds a Theme Day on the first of each month. Come on over and see how other members around the CDP world have captured the April theme. |

Two unique shots to start off the Theme Day!
well, you've certainly turned this theme on its head. excellent.
I believe that yours will be the only photo of pedestrians on their hands. Very clever.
Two fab shots Julie, the first is a marvelous capture :)
Always good to see a Sydney Eye post. Your top shot is, hands down, my fave!
As always, Julie, thank you (and Peter) for all the time and work you give keeping the wheels on the CDP wagon.
Thank you, folks. The hand-stand shot was totally serendipitous, although I like standing down the bottom of the steps catching people in all their wonder as they mill around The House. One never knows what will turn up! Voila!
I love that top shot!!!
Next time I am in Sydney (hopefully), I will know where to find you, Julie. Lovely shots!
OH wow. I'm still digging for B'ham. Have one for Paris. We'll see!

My fear of heights (and, more recently, since my eye surgeries, of steps) is so bad I find it difficult to look at the first photo. Bravo to the brave young men, however, for providing you with your serendipitous shot.

some folk are born exhibitionists
What a fun way to cross the plaza, if you're able!
Great shots but the first one is a brilliant capture.
What a great contrast, I love that first one (even if it fills me with envy...oh to be that young and energetic!:)
I like to think that once upon a time I could have walked on my hands like these two fellows. Great idea for the Theme Day Julie.
Serendipity indeed. Well spotted.
Hand-estrians? Cool!
Great shots!
How fabulous that you were on hand to capture the spontaneity of that dramatic Opera House moment!
Those two Aussie mates must be in top shape to walk around on their hands! Fun, fit foto find, friend!
Just love that first photo!
ahhhhh i'm scared they are going to fall over and pummel down the stairs! what a great capture!
Perfect!
I love it, Julie.
Such serendipity. Having the camera handy is always helpful.
Outstanding photos, and literally 'street-photography'!
It is great to have the camera at hand, and just pop the shot. If you hesitate, it's gone...
Loving the hand-walkers! I can only imagine the wrist strength involved, but what silhouettes! Thank you for the slice of history. It's cool to be able to look at blogs from round the world and start to see what it's like elsewhere. I think it makes me a better person. Sorry for the late comment - I've been slowly visiting each Theme Day participant and it takes me a while.
