Festival of the Solstice - # 1 Earth

It comes down to respect, really. How can we respect something that we walk all over? That we cover with concrete? With bitumen? With bricks? How can we respect something from which we suck all the nutrients? How can we respect something that we use as a dump to hide our excesses?

We live in apartment buildings, high in the sky, and rarely set foot on terra-firma. There is only one earth, and it has a fragile coating of earth, of soil. If we have any chance of bequeathing our children and our grandchildren, a planet with 'food bowl' capabilities, we need to start planting, to start nurturing, to start contouring, to start composting, to start fighting the build-up of saline.

We need to start respecting.

This is my contribution to 'The Festival of the Solstice', the June Mid-month Theme over at City Daily Photo.

Interesting thoughts Julie, and am totally with you. We need to respect all aspects of the ground and the earth itself, far more than people do.

Mother Earth is respected by many; it's unfortunate that many also, have no idea of it's worth

Everything we have and everything we are comes from the earth. We should not only respect it but protect it.

We should bother much more!
There are some who will inherit this earth.
