My grand-daughter is my "turkey-warrior": I let her loose when the girl-turkey sashays down the driveway each morning, just as I spoon the cat-food into their bowls. It really is the cats' fault, you know. They stand back, and let her run the roost! They let her muscle in. And one of my cats is a Noisy Minor killer (don't worry: they are a pest and scare off native species). So,Alannah thunders out onto the lawn bellowing: "Go away, Turkey! Go back to Turkey-land." They are the Brush Turkey, Alectura lathami, a mound-building scrub turkey. They are protected, and we can neither harm them, nor move them. We do NOT have to tolerate them, though. |

Cool looking turkey, great shot! Enjoy your weekend!
What a distinguished looking turkey!
…And, Julie, they’re something of an inspiration to feminists because the male does all the housework including the egg-sitting, constantly tending the mound to maintain a perfect incubating temperature.
How ‘reconstructed’ is that, huh?
Saw one yesterday in the driest bit of scrub ever. One match and whoof - turkey and all.
Ha ha. We don't get them up our way. They used to invade my in- laws kitchen up in Brisbane.
Yes, they are not in the least shy, Joan. I am collecting shots to show the cats "sharing". I have a male turkey who visits, too. He is a sight to behold, as he walks over the roof of the house next door.
What cool shots. And great post. Good on Allannah for helping gran's cats! Greetings Jo
