Loading provisions into their dinghy which they slip at Gordons Bay, two mates make ready for their blissful day fishing off Wedding Cake Island. At 8am on the final day of the year, the temperature was starting to bite as it rose toward the forecast 31C. Gordon's Bay is south of Sydney Harbour, immediately north of Coogee Beach and maybe five beaches south of Bondi.
Being judgemental for a tick - and using, as evidence, their hair style - these guys are probably lawyers or accountants.

Or maybe politicians...
I don't have a lot to say about last year or this new year but here are some thoughts...
I hope 2009 will be better than 2008, 2007, and 2006. I do think our
government will be inspired by our new President Obama -- at least I
hope so.
I would like to see the War in Irag end and I would like to see the
killing stop everywhere.
It is my hope that Japan will stop slaughtering whales and raping
virgin forests.
And I hope the people will lose their clubs and no longer club baby
seals to death.
What a world we have and live in. 2009 could be so much better than it will be.
Hi Julie,
I envy the two men leaving in their "tinni" (love the Aussie slang for common objects--always so descriptive!). The beach they are leaving looks very similar to one of our beach communities of Laguna Beach, CA. It looks like it might be a good place to scuba dive?
31ÂșC! I envy you!... :-)
Very nice spot!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Abe: I share many of those hopes and dreams. However, I feel that if we get the love and peace right on a small person-to-person scale and extend that to people in our street, that is making a start.
JT: "Tinnie" is a great word, isn't it? And yes, the next 3 photos I took were of a bunch learner scuba divers. I am going out there again today to catch the afternoon light.
JM: The first day of this new year is heading for 34C - only to drop down tomorrow to 23C. Thanks for the good wishes - you are a nice new colleague to have and have opened my eyes to the wonderful natural places in Portugal.
Lawyers and Accountants?
I'm not sure, but accompanied as they are by fluffy dog, I can say they are quite certain of themselves!
May 2009 be full of small fluffy dogs!
Have a great year Julie.

As a lawyer, I must take exception to your characterization of my male colleagues haircuts. Well, at least American lawyers do better. Well, at least me. Not that I have all that much to work with, of course.
Still envious of these semi-tropical scenes. Happy New Year from chilly St. Louis.
Wow - this the first 2009 blog I've read.
Eight hours to go here in Los Angeles.
Peter (BM): Being certain of themselves would certainly make them lawyers!
Bob: We do things differently Down Under In addition to the hirsute judgment, it also helps to know that the small sailing shed they are launching from is surrounded by multi-million dollar shacks. Definitely lawyers!
K: We lead the pack in many ways! Have a good one ...
