Within the shadow of the ship I watched their rich attire: Blue, glossy green, and velvet black, They coiled and swam; and every track Was a flash of golden fire. Samuel Taylor Coleridge
It's gruesome and funny and kind of lovely, all at the same time. The meat looks quite delicous, but those eyes...I think I never liked dolls because they had unseeing eyes like these.
The thing that got me - aside from the wonderful colours - was the waste. Such a wonderful animal, king of his own domain, yet we slaughter him for a fillet this side and a fillet the other side and chuck the rest into a bin for pet food, presumably. The unseeing eyes I take as a judgement upon our selfishness and the burden of the Ancient Mariner was appropriate to these circumstances!

Wonderful colour and texture even though a little gruesome. Apt poem too.

Put it that way, their faces look quite sad. (I thought these were for sale -- fish heads are prized out this way. For boullebaise (sp), I believe.
