The flight to happiness

A heavy heart informs a heavy tread; whereas happiness takes flight and makes spirits rise, feet tap and hearts sing.

Interestingly, the segments of the National Folk Festival in Canberra over Easter that most engaged my whole being were those devoted to dance, where men and women gave themselves over to a sensuous enjoyment of movement and music. The first and final image here is of the couple who yesterday were dancing Colonial sets. The three small images are: Scottish reel dancing, bushmusic tapping, and Argentinian tango balancing.

I undoubtedly would never have thought to photograph the feet, but by doing so you have caught the rhythm and grace and joy of the dance. Super job!

I must say that I am utterly enthralled by your set of photographs of the past 2 days. The branch and tree metaphor is an appropriate one, and has made me reflect on my place in the wider community within which I live.

Are you familiar with My Street, Sue Bourne's documentary about life on her street in London? ABC Radio National had a similar type of project, which is all about telling stories about your own community. http://www.abc.net.au/rn/streetstories/features/mystreet/default.htm It ties in nicely with the 100 strangers concept.

Yes, well done. Those feet seem to be in good synch. I'm hardly able to synch my own feet here on a Tuesday morning.

Julie, this series is excellent. I, too, love that gravity defying first shot. In one image you say so much. Not only is your photography remarkable but your comments too hold such beauty.
Regarding your question about the pennies: these coins are left by customers who do not want the extra weight in their purses or pockets of a handful of pennies. They are used by customers who are short two or three cents when making a purchase. As far as I know there is no abuse of this system. People leave a penny; in the next store they might take a penny.

Hi Julie
Thanks for dropping by! I love your blog - really spiritual and peaceful somehow. Love the photos. I shall add you to my blog roll. How does one find the time to keep an eye on our world?!
