Skywatch - Catching the last rays

Taken as the lowering winter sun bathes the entire area with a golden haze, this vantage point affords some unusual angles for old favourites - which I will share with you next week together with some more interesting history. Taking the stairs to the Tarpeian Way and entering the Botanic Gardens at the rear of Government House, count the number of icons I have managed to include in the one shot: ferry, Luna Park, Harbour Bridge AND Opera House.

Check out other Skywatchers around the world.

I have seen lots of photographs of the Opera building, but never like this. It is very nice the way you have done it. Is it taken in the evening?

Good shot from an interesting location. Never thought of photographing the icons from that angle.

This should be a great winter evening.

All boxes ticked, then! It's funny that with so many internationally recognised icons in one vista that you don't see more pictures taken from here.

Interesting angle, so that's what's at the top of those steps.

Interesting angle/slice of the opera house - I've only ever seen it from its 'traditional' pose...

Nice capture. The shadows and silhouettes highlight the shapes.

The angles within the shot contribute to the utterly satisfying angle of the shot in this wonderful composition.

The fading of the light and the stillness of the ferris wheel give it and empty, lonely atmosphere.

It's interesting how the photo of such an apparently ordinary scene can hold so much feeling.

A wonderful capture, Julie. There's so much to see. The ferris wheel gives it a whimsical feel. You have some amazing architecture.

This is an interesting shot of the Opera House. It's so quiet my guess is it must be early morning?
