Abbey Road 40 years on

When I was about ten, each Monday afternoon my father brought home a copy of a trashy magazine, "Australasian Post". Buried somewhere near the back was a quiz page which contained two drawings, similar except for 8 differences. I loved circling each of those differences! Which brings me to my erstwhile beatle ...

As I meandered down Begg Lane, I saw him walk past on Glenmore Road. My refugee. From another time and another continent! It's him. Enchanted, I admit to stalking him. However, I was not the only one protective from afar. Protective, yet respectful of declining independence.

Later, with the slow motion replay available to umpires but not necessarily to live spectators, I began to doubt my own eyes. Here is the image from that sweltering Melbourne Cup day back on Tuesday November 3. How many essential differences can you find?

At a quick glance, just the hat ... clearly cup day was special.

Yes, the bowler was his tribute to the importance of MCD to the Australian psyche. I like that.

However, it is a different walking stick, too. There is a pattern on this stick that was not there in the MCD image.

Also, the sneakers are different. There is more padding in the heel on MCD.

Is it my gentleman or no?

Oh, he's wonderful! With his hat and his crisp white shirt. I just popped over from Neil's blog, Light and Dark. Great images.

LOL! Stalking old men, are we? Thank you for making me laugh, Julie!

The rubber skid on the bottom of the cane is a different shape. Looks like he holds his left hand the same way. My vote? Same man. Wonderful captures.

Yes, same man, different hat and stick. Also, he is carrying a bag in his left hand in the second, He is empty handed in the first.

This is very late but I have just discovered you.

A really touching post - so full of pathos! I love how the other people are watching him - probably ready to step in if he needs them.
