Instead of alighting the westbound platform at Newtown station, perhaps I found a new exit from platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross station. Whichever it was, my journey from Double Bay to Newtown on Sunday teleported me to the Kingdom of Feral.
The old, the young and the very young are carving out life their way in the inner city and they are a very happy bunch of [insert sub-culture of choice here]. They are certainly community minded, if the turnout for the Newtown Festival is anything to go by.

I don't know what the festival of feral is, but there certainly looks like a big crowd. Your first photo is brilliant - all those coloured bubbles. And that tongue! Caught (on camera) at just the right moment.

That first shot is a treasure. The second fills me with awe. So many gathered together. The collective joy is captured here in these images. Wish we could bottle this and distribute it around the globe.

I love everything about this shot, especially the colours in the bubbles. I thought about going to Newtown, but then it rained, not sure I could handle the crowd (although I am steeling myself for Festival First Night in January and there is one of the free Domain concerts I really want to go to - Toumani Diabate & Vieux Farka Toure).

Just remembered that I didn't comment yesterday (my day in the city). I love bubbles and the fun in their faces. The second shot takes all the fun out of it for me ... I prefer to browse without having to jostle through a huge crowd.
The bubble shot is very good and oozes fun. The crowd is full on. Although they all look like they are having fun It all looks a bit squishy for me. Many years ago, in the 50's my Dad used to work in the telephone exchange in Newtown. In those days I think it was the Greek quater.
BTW I have always taught Primary school.You have had an interesting career and now entering the best time of your life as long as you stay healthy. Happy retirement.
