The penal colony at the end of the earth!

Taken from the lookout at the top of the South-eastern pylon of the harbour bridge in the middle of winter with the temperature at a very mild 19C. This is looking south, on the right is the Bradfield Highway which is the road across the bridge. This highway segues into York Street which runs all the way down to the Town Hall.

Then we meandered around Circular Quay to the Opera House and had a couple of wines as we watched the sun set behind the very pylon we had looked out from two hours earlier. The lookout is that little bit right at the very top of the pylon.

Magic!

One of those times when you feel like one of the most privileged people on earth.

The bottom shot is magic. Look at the way the layers of colour in the sky, perfectly positioned against the bridge and the pin pricks of light beginning to emerge into the evening. Beautiful composition.

Julie, both your shots are wonderful but the sunset shot is glorious. I think its fantastic that your shot yesterday was like the continuation of my shot today. Good teamwork. :)

I believe it's Barangaroo, with only a double 'o'. Also, the suburbs around the pylons of the bridge are Dawes Point on the western side and The Rocks on the eastern side. The border of Millers Point is further over. Sorry if I sound a bit pedantic, but I've been using the street directory and the Geographical Naming Board website to make sure I get the suburbs right.

Nothing wrong with being pedantic if we get things right. I did not realise that Dawes Point was a suburb, I thought it was just a geographical feature. Is there such a 'suburb' as Walsh Bay? I tend to think that Dawes Point, Walsh Bay, Millers Point and Barangaroo are all included in 'Millers Point". What have you discovered?

Julie, there's no suburb called Walsh Bay but there is definitely a suburb called Dawes Point. The wharves at Walsh Bay are mostly in Dawes Point and partly in Millers Point. Barangaroo was part of Millers Point but it was officially declared a separate suburb a couple of years ago, in preparation for the redevelopment. There's nothing really in the new suburb yet apart from the old Harbour Control Tower and the dock for the cruise ships.

Glorious sunset. No matter how often you go down there, there's always something different to see.

Fabulous bridge shot-- strong colors.

All that needs is a decent sized cruise ship to be in port.
