MYM - Daffodil Day

Unfazed by the chilly wind blowing up the concourse, the students of Sydney Girls’ High and Sydney Boys’ High bustled around their stall at Central Station on Friday last. Their enthusiasm and happiness were infectious as they did a roaring trade extracting donations from the floods of commuters.

Based on a similar day in Canada, and established as an Australia-wide event in 1992, Daffodil Day raises around $8,000,000 to assist in the fight against cancer.

In NZ, Daffodil Day looks back over a 20 year history. I have not seen that level of promotion, though, no teddybears or other merchandising. But many people wearing the daffodil. I got mine at a supermarket checkout.

Good images capturing the spirit.

There were a lot of stalls and sellers all over the city this year.

Those kids do a good job. That's one I'll always support.

Its a Steggles truck so they've probably got a lot more than 9. I'm definitely voting just Green in the State. Think I did last time for all the good it did. I still reckon we're up for another Federal election by the end of next year if not sooner.

It is interesting times. This will be a fascinating week. Will be interestig to see how they all split and the reasons for supporting one side or the other.

A good day for a good cause. Daffodils mean new life to me with their bright color and early blooms.

The sooner we get rid of cancer the better. I have lost too many friends.

How wonderful to find out a Canadian event led to a similar one on the other side of the world!
I've been reading your other blogs, Julie, and I'm impressed. I barely have sufficient inspiration to handle one blog.
Thanks for being there.

We don't have dafffodil day here, well, we don't have daffodils in Malaysia, that's why, I guess..But to celebrate it for a good cause is terrific! Good job:)

The daffodil is the emblem of the Marie Curie nurses, specialist cancer nurses who nurse terminally ill patients in their own homes. It's interesting that Australia, New Zealand and Canada have adopted the daffodil too.

I saw a group of sellers in our train station too. I bought pens for my kids. This is a great cause. Great photos.

Thank you for the nice comment, Julie.
