Sat'day night - Use a little muscle to get what you need

Please click to enlarge
Flicking along the jaw, a bob defined her face and accompanied her brittle laugh, much as a mellow Shiraz accompanies a rare fillet. The winds of August were bleak, and gusty. A toxic mix of pollen and urban dust swirled across her Jimmy Choos. Elaiine could feel the train wreck coming.

Her mouth was dry and her mind more vacuous than empty. That she no longer cared might be putting too fine a point on it, rather, she no longer minded. Geese and ganders came to mind. Sod them – two can play this game.

She lengthened her stride and as they turned across the footpath to mount the stairs, out of the corner of her eye she saw the white parcel slip from fist to palm. Another deal was done, another train readies to leave the station. Her eyes glistened with possibility, as she lowered her gaze to feign oblivion.

You've made this photo more dark than light, leaving me wondering what exactly the people are doing. Fine street shot.

Beautiful B&W. I does make you wonder what is going on in the shadows.

Gorgeous shot Julie.

Love the silhouettes of the couple - and the large man, you can tell so much about a person, even from a glance.

Nice glimpse into night life.

Nice story, Julie; short, crisp sentences full of meaning. Calls to mind Haruki Murakami, perhaps "After Dark"... (Hope I don't offend by any comparison.) And your photo is a perfect accompaniment.

I have heard his name but do not know his work. I looked up 'After Dark' and Wiki had an interesting synopsid, which made me smile.

I force myself to keep these little Riffs to 150 words. Rarely do I write a follow-up or extension.

That's quite an arty shot.

Regarding the larger images on my blog, I couldn't get the hang of the Updated editor with the X-Large shots originally. I gave it another go because I prefer the larger photos too. I was successful so I'll go BIG in future. I'm trying out a new template too for a bit of a change. You mentioned something about teh big shots stuffing up the template. Does my new layout look alright at your end or are any bits of it stuffed up?

Thanks for the feedback Julie. I'm using one of the new Design templates and haven't mucked around with it too much yet. I agree that the header banner is not brilliant and it was one thing I wanted to change. I'll try mucking around with it, when I get a chance.

I also agree about the annoying wasted space with the portrait shots. Not sure if it looks good having the photo far left and then running the info down the right hand side either. I appreciate your comments. Cheers.

Julie, I read the Wiki synopsis and I'm afraid it doesn't really do Murakami justice. He is the most internationally known of contemporary Japanese writers and his material has a very broad worldview, hence appeal (only the names in his book make me know I'm reading about characters in Japan). My favorite novel of his so far is "Kafka on the Shore." :-)

Ah, but the dark makes the light shine that much brighter. Yes a fine shot and story. What if?....
