Redhead Beach - Christmas Week (1)

Redhead Beach is on the coast just south of Newcastle (maybe 100 miles north of Sydney). My younger brother and his wife have lived very close to this beach since 1974. My older brother trained down from Wauchope, and I trained up and we spent a couple of days together.

We walked along Redhead Beach in the general direction of Blacksmiths Beach (the entire stretch is known as Nine-Mile Beach). Then went to their favourite store, bought fish and chips and ate them on a platform overlooking the bird reserve. 'Twas wonderful.

In the photo below, you can see how the beach got its name. The structure on the rock in the foreground is an old shark lookout. It has been classified by the Heritage Council.

Interesting how varied the beaches are and that old structure adds real interest to the cliffs. I'm at the beach right now ... the weather is windy and wild but a good 8 or 9 degrees warmer than home so we are satisfied. Not taking any photos ... just resting.

Both are wonderful shots. The lookout tower is terrific.

A redheaded anything is good with me.
Beautiful beach, Julie. I like both shots but am partial to the one with the dog, of course.
Wishing you all the best for Christmas and the new year. So nice you have family a train-trip away.

That must have been a nice weekend to be with your brothers. The beach looks great and the colours in the rocks magic.
