Redhead Beach - Christmas Week (3)

There were numerous dogs on the beach; it is an off-leash area. The dogs adore the waves and with those new throwing things (womeras?) the balls were going quite some distance, into the water and along the water.

My heart was in my mouth when we saw this young man fishing from the point. The water was not gentle and about two hours later a massive electrical storm engulfed the area, lighting striking dead a man on a golf course. Rock fishing is very popular, but with hazards. I think they are considering mandatory life vests.

I can't imagine going out to that point with waves like that! He must have really wanted some fish. I enlarged the picture to see it better. When I looked at the smaller picture, it looks very much like a scene you'd see here-- but with calmer waters, and he would be practicing yoga or tai chi.

Re: your comment on Sunday, asking if our homeless are "moved on." Bellingham is a very liberal, tolerant area, and I've never seen any transients asked to move on. I don't generally see them in doorways, though-- they seem to prefer camps under bridges or in the woods. Most of the time the homeless population are in transit, anyway, due to our location between Vancouver and Seattle, so many of them don't stay in Bellingham for long.

BTW, congrats on your "Shooting the Breeze" win! I think I'll have to wait after the craziness of the holidays, but I plan to join in the game soon.

Great shots - I really like the rock fishing - crazy though! The surfers were cool - hard to think of it being warm at this time of year.

Beautiful moment on the first shot, love to see a happy dog!

I agree that the fisherman looks to be doing his daily devotions. I had to use the camera lens to get a good look at him.

Lizzie, the prompt at Tenth Daughter that we are in now is massively hard, but I am setting the next prompt which is revealed on January 1 and it is much more traditional. I'd love you to join in. See what you think come the New Year.

Wonderful shots. They arouse the longing for a holiday. I like the second one very much. Great!

At first I thought he was doing yoga rather than fishing.

Judging by his pudgy underbelly, I would put this lad at 14 or 15. His fishing technique is shall we say, 'developing'.

Love the dog and owner having such a good time on the beach. I've never seen those sticks/balls attached before. As for the man on the rocks - what a photo! I remember when I lived in Australia so often reading that someone had been swept out to sea by a wave. People are just crazy.

Have never seen one of those woomera things ... always something new to discover in blogs ... we are back from the beach and have the fire lit tonight ... where is summer?

I see fishermen like this often, but never in rough weather. Beirut's shore is very rocky, hazardous no matter the weather.
