The best view of iconic Sydney

Participating in Sunday Bridges.

From the top of the GI observation tower.
Garden Island ceased being an island during WW2 when the navy connected the two bits of land with a massive dry dock. The northern tip of the 'island' was opened to the public in 2005, and is only accessible by a very short ferry trip from Circular Quay on the Watson's Bay route. Ann from Sydney Meanderings and I jaunted over to GI for a reconnoitre last Thursday.

The detail to the left of the first photograph.
On the highest point of the original island, stands the original port of Sydney shipping control tower, the roof of which is now a 360 degree lookout, with the most stupendous views of the city and the harbour.

The detail to the right of the first photograph.
The ship docked in Sydney Cove (beyond the Opera House) is the 'Rhapsody of the Seas'.

This is a wonderful and informative tour. A few years ago we stayed in the Intercontinental hotel, which must be one of the high rise buildings on the left side of your photo. We had a view in the opposite direction of your photos.

Visiting Australia is on my bucket list, Julie. And whenever I forget this, I'm treated to another tour of your beautiful city and I'm even keener to see it. Greetings from Jo, South Africa

The Sydney Opera House has to be one of the most iconic structures in the world. I hope I live long enough to visit your beautiful city some day. I will ask you for a guided tour.

Beautiful, Julie. In Sydney on our way home after a month in Queensland 1982, my little brother and I went to a play at the Opera House. After I bought the tickets, he told me it was his first experience with live theatre. We had a wonderful time!

The bottom one came out well, they all did but I know you were trying to get the ship/OH and bridge. Seeing as you're using your's now, I'll leave mine for a week or so. They are almost identical.

Yes, I have other combinations to go yet. The one where I was waiting for the ferry might be Tuesday.

There are 4 of us with images of the coat-hanger today. You might as well join us!!

Nice city shots. I'm sure much has changed since I was there 18 years ago. We did attend a performance in the opera house on our last night before flying home. Indelible memories.

The first shot would be perfect for a link on the 'Sunday Bridges' meme.

I spy with my little eye something beginning with ABC - Andrew Boy Charlton pool (the best public pool in the world) - pic 2 opposite the naval vessel.

I know I am from Melbourne and they say there is a thing as Sydney/Melbourne rivalry - but I still think Sydney Harbour is amazing.

Happy New Year, Julie! I'm so glad you linked your iconic shot to Sunday Bridges! You picked a beautiful day to go up to GI control tower for these marvelous shots.

[I've had my work plate overflowing in the past few months, with not enough time for visiting friendly bloggers.]
