Show me the way to go home

Having a home of one's own, that is not flooded, not blown to bits, not weighed down by snow and ice, not bombed to smthereens ... that is a precious commodity around the world right now. Be careful out there, people.

Show me the way to go home,
I'm tired and I want to go to bed;
I had a little drink about an hour ago,
And it's gone straight to my head.

Where ever I may roam,
On land or sea or foam;
You will always hear me singing this song,
Show me the way to go home.

It's always so hard, selecting just the right numbers to go on one's home. I love the variety.

Super selection of house numbers, Julie, and a good reminder to those of us whose homes are still cozy and comfortable. I'm grateful to be one of the fortunate.

You always make an art form out of the mundane. And your sentiments are exactly right.

There's no place like home. Home is where the heart is. Fantastic photos :-).

Could you hear that deep sigh?

I can hear that song in my mind's ear. It's interesting how little attention the Queensland cyclone is getting in the US, what with our rather less devastating weather woes. Still, see my son's Chicago photo blog at http://dailyphotobutcherfortheworld.blogspot.com/

I stand to disagree, Bob. I have seen images of the snow storm and don't think I would like to be caught in either. Besides, you snow is doing likewise here ... *grimace* ...

Shall nip over to Andre in a tick ...

Very true, we are lucky. I can remember my dad singing that song to me often. Does anyone challenge you when taking pics of their house numbers?

Ann said...

I like this, lots of textures.

Julie said...

Diane: nope, not been challenged as yet. But I dont click if someone is in the front room, or on the verandah, and wouldnt if someone asked me not to.

There is nothing illegal/unethical about taking photographs from a public footpath. I take photos of flowers the same way.

Now you have me running around looking at the house numbers of Lawson. I agree about the delight of having a safe home. Of late I have laid in bed thinking of what it would be like having your home blown apart in the Cyclone or a flood sneaking up around the stumps overnight. I remember both (non threatening) from my childhood. And I am always glad when a summer passes without major fires nearer to home -- we've missed out the last couple of years.

Yes, that seems to be the way of the world. Not just Australia.

I was a bit miffed early in the piece, when 'some' QLDers were angry that the world seemed to have forgotten them. And that chap yesterday who let Abbott an Longeboek have a serve. We are not at our best when under pressure, us normal mortals. I think AB and maybe JG and Big Ted are different in this regard.

The entire world has these extreme events and people the world over react in similar ways. They look after their own. Sad ...
