A mailbox, like a public clock and, indeed, public toilets, are difficult to find unless you know where they are!
In Paria, posting cards back to my grand-daughter, it took me ages to realise that the mailbox was that funny yellow thing often adjacent to a Metro. In France, they are yellow, in Australia they are red.
There is a 'wall' mailbox into the Post Office along Rue de Grenelle that I stumbled upon when a gentlemen slid post into it. I had walked past it nearly every morning.
Here in Australia, we have glorious old English style mail boxes which have been boarded up ... yes! Boarded up. Only to have a pedestrian modern box plonked right beside it. Go figure ...
The two French mailboxes are in Rue de Grenelle and beside the Monceau Metro. The pair of reds are in Bridge Street, Glebe, whereas the boarded up one beside my local grocer, Thomas Dux, is on Glenmore Road, Paddington.

Hi Julie,
Love the way the colours pop out in you photos. I'm pretty new to the CDPB and was wondering about the theme day? Is it just for the 1st of May, and if so I'd better get my skates on and make that my project for tomorrow.
Best wishes
Grace
The yellow (yeller?) Paris poste boxes look...dare I whisper it....PLASTIQUE??? Tell me non!

It took me a long time to realize post boxes in Paris were yellow. LOL
Boarding up the wonderful old English-style ones and putting new modern ones beside them is criminal, Julie, just criminal.
I hope you are coming out of your jet-lag, although it is early days yet, I know.

Grace - I have answered extensively back at YOUR mailbox.
Virginia - s'okay, I feel sure the standalone models are some sort of steel. This one is particularly clean but most are covered in graffiti.
Kay - Sleep is coming in 2 hour stretches every 12 hours. Will take a while.
Love that old red one in your top pic!
like the Paris-Sydney contrast.
Yes, well that may continue to ooze out for a while. On my "A Pied" blog I am working on a post about Des Invalides. I am using the photographs to improve my grasp of French. Very time consuming ...
The contrast in old and new is good as well the comparison of French and Aussie boxes. Sad about the old ones, they have so much character.
Never realised those yellow plasticy boxes at the metro were post boxes! I like the old style red laden with character.
Hi Julie, arrived back on Friday and have slept for 36 hours. We had a fantastic time and our 31 students were just brilliant, no crisis or trouble whatsoever,I wish we had had time for cafe but it was so great to meet you. We were very taken with Invalides museum and have already planned a half day there next time.
Love the mailboxes, enjoy your month
Mark
Don't you wish someone would mail your energy back from Paris to Sydney?
Good juxtaposition of old and new. Wish we had more of the lovely old red ones.
Well I think that they are better of being boarded up and still there rather than not there at all. Isn't it fun finding your way around in an unfamiliar country .. who would have expected the post boxes to be yellow ... are telephone boxes blue?
Forgot about theme day, better get my skates on and find a pic. I am pretty sure I took a photo of a post box on the trip I am currently running.
Interesting to see the old one sealed up like that but remaining there with a new one not far away. They still use a lot of those old ones in some suburbs, so I'm left wondering why they did that here.
And in Monaco, the mailboxes are RED! Love your shots - as always...!
Interesting that you have different styles. In Sweden we have yellow and in Hungary they are red :)
Ours in Beirut are yellow too. I really like the first shot, Julie. It made me feel like I was right there on the street.
i laught with the first shot
Too bad about the Victorian mailboxes. They probably don't stand up to today's security standards so sadly can't be used unless they are refurbished. I wish they'd try that instead of replacing them with modern ones. Or at least make the new ones replicate the old.
In America, public mailboxes are blue. You've inspired me to take a picture of them now.
