Standing sentry on either side of ANZAC Parade in Canberra, from the Australian War Memorial to Lake Burley Griffin, is a number of impressively emotional memorials to citizens who have served this country in theatres of war around the world. I have chosen to highlight the Vietnam Memorial.
The photo etched into the rear wall shows Australian soldiers waiting to be airlifted to Nui Dat after the completion of Operaion Ulmarra. A scroll containing the names of Australians who died in the Vietnam War is sealed into the stone. Surrounding the memorial are 6 seats dedicated to the memory of the 6 servicemen missing in action. I noted that 2 of these had been returned to their homeland for burial within the last 5 years.

The first shot had a S/S of 640. The second shot had a S/S of 160. And the third shot had a S/S of 400.

An interesting memorial.
I think those memorials along Anzac parade are as you say very moving. They each have there own character and add special touch of detail for those who walk its length.
When we lived there we used to attend the Anzac Dawn service then go and share breakfast with a dear friend who was a veteran of both WW2 and Vietnam. After that participated in the Anzac Parade
We also used to attend an Easter dawn service by the lake. Both were very chilly occasions.
I like the last shot. A year ago i was lucky to be in Canberra and was very moved by these memorials.

Hah! Very likely ... I suspect I will be down there again within two weeks with a couple of cousins. We have been doing some very exciting horse-trading with the AWM re family history.
