Today reached 38C when the average for this time of year is about 24C. We sought refuge walking around the stables in Centennial Parklands, but continuing to swelter we quickly repaired to the nearby cafe for an ice-block.
Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross, To see a fine lady upon a white horse; Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, And she shall have music wherever she goes. |

I bet she'll be entertained for hours riding her imaginary horse.
Julie, That darlin' child is making excellent use of your daughter's cane (which I am assuming she is doing). She is an imaginative beauty.
Kate: It is my cane. Kirsten uses her own power: I have seen her, post operation, spring up her apartment stairs with Alannah at hip!
101 uses for a walking stick. I like it.
Have you been to Banbury? The cross is not the original as the Puritans pulled them all down. Great place for a Banbury Cake!!
Great shots
She is sooo cute. You have a cheap toy their and arouses her imagination. 38C you're kidding.
It was a lovely warm 28C up here ... so nice to have some hot weather. Love the imaginative use of your cane and what an interesting cane it is ... its so distinctive you will be remembered for it long after you are gone.
Actually, I have my Grandma's cane somewhere, my Dad had it and I packed it when I was clearing up the family home .. and hers was very ordinary.
I agree: it is most distinctive. It was made by my father. Crafted, really. He cut it from the bush whilst 'spending a penny' one day in 1969. It was a sapling around which a vine had entwined itself. He spent many months, whilst sunbathing on Bondi Beach, picking the bark from the sworls and sanding it for envisaged aged hands. Did I tell you he was a perfectionist? I put the 'reins' on, because I kept dropping it whilst trying to take photographs!
alannah looks pink with heat but perfectly content. what a wonderful steed she's made of your cane.
Darling photos of your grandchild.
Oh wow ,,, it's even better knowing that story,
I've been thinking about your cane and how your father made it. I got me thinking how my Dad made everything in metal then I remembered that I had the walking stick that he had crafted for himself .. a smooth metal stick with a bend at the top ... I use it to clean the gutters!
*guffaw* ...I use the 'shepherd's crook' on this one to fetch errant toys out from under the sofa ...
