This is Little Sirius Cove in Mosman, adjacent to Taronga Park Zoo. Come with me on this walkway around a fascinating headland redolent with history. It is so named because this is where HMAS Sirius, the lead ship for the First Fleet, was careened in 1791.

Beautiful harbor, Julie. There are few things I like more than a harbor full of small craft at anchor.
I've often wondered what the captains and crews on those early ships thought, being co-conspirators, as it were, in using such a beautiful land as a prison.

We swam there all through my childhood. I learned to read the tide tables at an early age because only at high tide was there enough water to swim safely inside the shark net. I's been considerably beautified since those days and the shark nets in Mosman have all been taken down. Still, it was a wonderful place for us kids ... being able to walk down there and swim every day in the summer holidays was priceless.
Now this is the side of Sydney I love ... forget all the scribbled on bits like Newtown.

These views of Sydney put a lump in my throat. This is home. (but I wouldn't like to live there now.) I would love to join you on a walk around the headland and listen to the historical stories that you have collected.
