It's hurtling closer too fast for me Julie, still no Chrissy shopping done, but I think when you look at the bigger picture, there's so much more to think about...not that I'm not going to get around to it sometime next week or Christmas Eve haha!
I'm not fond of the light in the first photo, either, but the decorations in the next two pictures are pretty, and seem to be seasonally appropriate for your climate. No reindeer, snow or sleighs in sight! I've decided I want a Christmas tree this year. I bought some LED lights and a few baubles today, to go with the tiny gold-foil Christmas tree I think we have in the cellar. I have to wait until Dick comes home from his business trip, because I can't do the trap-door-ladder descent to the cellar. It is too early to offer Season's Greetings, but please know I'm thinking about you. K
I like the top light but agree that there have been better banners (I liked the birds). Are you interested in shooting the Town Hall and St Marys lights - if it ever stops raining? They start at 8.30 pm so we could eat somewhere first, like last year.
Julie, there once was a ferry wharf on the eastern side of the truss span Iron Cove bridge at Birkenhead Point but services were discontinued only last year due to low passenger numbers.
I was in the city on Thursday night and Leura on Saturday and I have to say the shops are very very empty. The poor economic times accompanied by poor weather certainly take the buzz out of Christmas but I put up my Christmas tree early this year so things are quite festive at home ... even though it feels more like a Blue Mountains Christmas in July.
I don't think I could have managed getting the top shot as good as that.
Julie, you should be able to catch a bus out to Birkenhead Point. The old warehouses converted to a shopping centre with outlet stores might provide some photographic opportunities.

Colorful it is.

Wonderful shots, Julie! I especially like the composition on top, it's fantastic!
The city needs a bit of colour with all the grey skies at the moment. I don't like the banners as much as those we had in previous years.
Very 1960s, which were a colourful time.
These are certainly up-market Christmas decorations, Julie!
Lovely captures! The first one is my fave.
I like the figure in the first shot. I can hear her asking for a headache tablet from the effects of the colourful but very ugly light.

Yeah, that sounds like a plan, Ann. I shall email you this arvo.
Love that top picture. The cool and warm colors, the slashes of light. The mannequin makes it perfect.

Drats, Jim. I guess everyone drives to Birkenhead. One of my aims in 2012, is to ride lots more ferries.

Yeah, I might do that over the break, Jim. That way I could walk across the bridges and shoot the marina as well. Hundreds of shots! What joy ...
