Where were we? Ah, yes ... hedonism and hubris. The urban myth goes that Sydney oozes H & H whereas Melbourne is content with elegance and culture. Meh ...
I think I have sorted out what that cute little building is. There are two tidal gauges on Sydney Harbour. This is one of them. The other is on Fort Denison.
According to the Dictionary of Sydney:
The calm water and ease of launching small boats meant that the northern end of Camp Cove was used as a base by the water police after they were relocated from Garden Island in 1840. The foundations of the wharf used by the water police from 1842 now end in a tidal gauge.

You make geography so interesting, Julie! Happy 2012 to you! Greetings, Jo
Looks like a nice place Julie. I wouldn't mind a little bit of sun.
Looks like heaven to me right now, relaxing next to the ocean. Beautiful!
Wow the second shot puts the little shed into such a different perspective. I love that shot with the beach and the big houses right up to the edge
I always wondered what it was. Top summer beach shots.
I wouldn't mind a visit to that beach, looks very warm and not too crowded.
Lovely shots, Julie. That little building looks like a stranded garden shed! :-)
And there's plenty of H&H in Melbourne, never fear... People are people the world over and one meets pleasant and unpleasant ones wherever one's goes!
I was not expecting that second view!!
Makes me wonder what those houses must be worth, with such a view over to the city.
The houses along the waterfront, generally, are very large and prestigious. My guess as to their worth, is between $10m and $15m Australian dollars (which is on parity with the US dollar). Camp Cove is very small and the property is tightly held.
Love the tidal gauge, I thought CC was a nudist beach. That's why I have kept away!
No, not Camp Cove, but the next one around, which is Lady Bay. It is protected by a steep cliff that necessitates (rickety) steps. Keeps the pervs at bay sufficiently.
