This is my contribution to the Weekend in Black and White community.

Good picture. Is it true that the monorail might be moving on?

Julie said...

With any luck, that is the rumour! Fatty O'Barrell does not like it apparently.

Wonderful shot Julie. Very nice.

Oh, I like this! Wonderful geometry!

Great geometric shapes.

Brilliant image Julie, I know you don't like the monorail, but in this shot it adds a little touch of the 'Gotham City'.

Snap those monorail shots while you can.

Thinking about getting involved in another meme (yeah, like I need another) I cruised through all the contributions to WBW and have to give your image here Best of Show! Wonderful coverages of all the tones with great contrast and clarity. Well done!

This reminds me of the 1927 German science fiction "Metropilis" by Fritz Lang.

interesting perspective and I never think to go black and white; it's always very impressive

Great urban geometry!

Where would a monorail move on TO, Julie?
It looks spectacular in this photo.

Wonderful.

I like the idea of turning into a high level bike and walking path like the New York High Line.

Julie said...

Kay: with any sort of luck it will move onto that great railway siding in the sky.

The NYHL is a wonderful urban renewal landscape, Mark, but I cannot see the track being used in that way. For starters, it has only been there 20 years, so little history to preserve. For seconds, it is the track ITSEIF that is offensive to the urban space around it. For thirds, the insurance required to protect the citizens who fall off would be prohibitive, and who would pay? Certainly not our Bazza!!

Love this, Julie - the lines are wonderful.

That is a wonderful shot to show up the geometry of the buildings.

Joan Elizabeth said...

But doesn't this image make you like it just a little bit? Remember I am a fan or the monorail.

Emma Dalloway said...

Great shot, Julie.

Yeah, its a little impractical to turn it into a NYHL - but I have seen urban design images by the City of Sydney staff who photoshopped ivy all over it.

Joan: Yes, I know you are an afficionado. I crossed over Park Street the other day, at the intersection with Pitt, just as the monorail passed overhead. As it was no longer raining, my brolly was down. I was drenched by the spray from the monorail as it passed above me. I will find other gorgeous curves in my city.

Julie said...

Dalloway: Now that boggles my saturated brain - 3.6 kms of window sill with trailing ivy. I would want to see terracotta pots with scarlet geranium, interspersed with Dichondra Silver Falls. We could ensure that all the OAPs from Ultimo are rostered on to keep the plants healthy. Sydney could be a 'Tidy Town' applicant, 2018.

Great shot. Funnily enough we are studying composition elements, one of them being lines, tomorrow at and U3A Camera Club. This is a good example.

Fantastic shot, wonderfully composed!

Julie, I'm afraid I didn't understand your comment regarding my arm... Sorry! :-) I tried to find other meanings for caste but all I got was the social class thing.

Love the geometry. THe black and white highlights it even more!
