Feeling round the bend!

This is my contribution to the Weekend in Black and White community.

I have added this following photograph - from the City of Sydney image library - as an explanation of my tags. The steps can be seen in this 1956 image. They are still recognisable. However, all the buildings are gone, and replaced by lawn. This was a Long Day Care and Women's Health Centre, built in 1952 and demolished somewhere between 1987 and 1989. This is Hyde Park (south) from the corner of Park and Elizabeth Streets. You can see the War Memorial in the background.

Gorgeous! You have such a good eye for composition. (I may have said that before, but it doesn't change.)
I'm up early today because we're leaving for California tomorrow. Back on Easter Monday. Will try to keep up with a few things online, especially the first week.
Hug Alannah for me.

Nicely spotted (pun intended) and it works well in B&W.

Love this composition Julie, it works so well in B&W. Somehow I relate to the title of your post at the moment!

That looks so familiar but when I read your tags I realised its not what I thought it was.

Do you know what happened to CDP? Haven't looked for a while because I've been away and when I went to see what the theme day was, it was gone.

THe CDPB portal had its server hacked. It has to be rebuilt from the beginning. Eric Tenin is keeping us updated on FB. It has been gone for about 10 days now.

This could be what you think it is. The tag 'baby health centre' is mostly for me. This is where a BHC used to be. I have no idea when it was pulled down. Maybe 20 years ago. Maybe less. I will go find out. Hang on.

Well that took longer than I thought. Had to read an entire Heritage Report! It was a LonG Day Care and Women's Health Centre, constructed in 1952 and demolished somewhere between 1987 and 1989. I have added an old (1956) image to my post. It clearly shows the steps, but not the anti-skid dots which are such a modern invention to avoid being sued!

Great! Have a nice day!

Love this! I love the way those dots highlight the curve of the steps - almost like strings of pearls.

Very interesting. I coincidentally have featured the Anzac War Memorial today.

Great patterns. The dimples give the steps an outline.

Cool shots Julie!!! I love the composition of yours...well done! Interesting history linked with what's there today...I'd love to see a shot from the same angle as the one from 1956 to see the difference!!!

As much as I appreciate the care to add accessibility, they don't really add to the simple aesthetic of this simple and beautiful piece of landscaping.
Your photograph is beautiful though and a great history snapshot

chieftess (Kathy): the 1956 shot was taken from the Consolidated Press building, hence the access of a photographer. Consolidated Press no longer occupies this building, and I highly doubt there is public access. I shall ask.

The top one - a hat!

P.S. Apologies - I have been thinking one could only comment if one belonged to Facebook and the other things in the drop-down list. I now know one can leave remarks in the usual way as well.

So interesting to see the old photograph Julie, I'm thinking that the building they knocked down is no great loss, it's pretty horrible looking and I'm guessing the Women's Health Care Centre is located in a much nicer spot now..hopefully! I should think as a garden approach to the War Memorial it would be much more attractive now.
