Retail treadmill

So, the true engine-room of consumer spending - 55+ females - is moving online and playing havoc with the bricks'n'mortar retailing that we have become so used to - or used by, would be more to the point.

Yes indeed, there we are (not) in the store. Nice composition and great colours too.

Really cool perspective here. :)

I believe so too... :D Nice bird's eye view Julie.

Why would you queue or hand around to be ignored by a 20 something shop assistant when its quicker, easier and cheaper online.

Great view from above. Nice blue glow on the escalators.

Wonderful bird's eye view Julie. It will be interesting to see whether the bricks and mortar retailers will be able to reinvent themselves.

Great shot. The symettry is very satisfying. I just had some towels delivered from Macy's in New York for less than half the price of Myer's in Brisbane. I know it's not supporting the Aussie retain industry but really... less than half price??!

The place sure looks empty. Are 55+ females really the biggest shoppers ... I find myself shopping less and less with every passing year ... except for food.

Is this Bondi Junction Julie. I'm not a shopaholic anymore, but I still find it way more satisfying to buy something that I can try on or test before I buy and of course there's always the instant gratification aspect..but the real reason is that I HATE giving my credit card details over the internet!!

i really love the phrase "retail treadmill". i cannot promisei wont steal it one day.
on the other hand, in the gym at my apartment, many of the pretty well sprty-fancy-outfitted ladies use the treadmill more or less as an escalator. it always amuses me... i think they spend more calories walking towards the gym than when on the treadmill...

Perfect symmetry, Julie. I really like the shot. I'm not in the 55+ category yet, but as a 41-year old, I try to use local shops for the bigger purchases, like my recent camera upgrade, for example. I am guilty of buying books, music, etc. online, however. How people ever buy clothes online remains a mystery to me, I'm afraid...

I am both female and well over 55, Alan. I buy books and toys online. I also do a monthly Woolies shop online where I buy everything that I am not able to carry home in my caddee. Like cat litter, and cleaning products.

I no longer buy many things that are called discretionary.

Define "discretionary"..:-)

... mmm ... *grin* ... so it's dumb word to use when the classical meaning is taken (individual discretion). So how about I change that to mean that I mostly purchase on the lowest level of Maslow's hierarchy.
