Ekeing - life on the street

I hate this grinding poverty—
To toil, and pinch, and borrow,
And be for ever haunted by
The spectre of to-morrow.

It breaks the strong heart of a man,
It crushes out his spirit—
Do what he will, do what he can,
However high his merit!

Henry Lawson (1896)

This is my contribution to the Weekend in Black and White community.

Beautiful photo, Julie. But I see a sweet little face on your sidebar, so I'd better check her out to see what she's up to now!

Light and darkness creating a "colourful" celebration dance together! Enchanting!

Perfect moment in time.
The sky is still light but darkness has descended over the city.
Beautiful shot!

very moody piece despite the brilliance of the lights.

Only some of Lawson translates into the modern world. But he does encapsulate the dichotomy of the Australian character vis-a-vie the bush and the city.

A moody and strong image. Perfect in BW Julie.

Wonderful city shot in black and white. Great poem too. Sad how issues like poverty are timeless.

The city looks beautiful even in BW! ..and such a fitting (..and a little ironic-- with the tall buildings in the backgound))poem for this image.

Hope you had a nice weekend!

Excellent photo, I like it very much. I love this kind of photo, with all the lights and the buildings so strong. I couldn't live there, but I enjoy looking!
