Blast from the past

I know this SAYS the "Darval Rd Gate'. However, it is on Cook Road, Moore Park where it intersects with Darvall Street. But hey!

The Sydney Showground has not been on this site for, I'm guessing, a quarter of a century. I wonder how often this gate gets used?

and people will walk by without even noticing... until one day a condo springs up. (or at least that is what would happen here!)

I have never been to the show since it moved west. lots of memories from the old days.
My dads relative who had a metal plate in his head and sold licorice samplebags and used to give us pads of old Opera House lottery tickets as scribble paper.
My dad buying a Blue Nun Moselle glass on Good Friday thinking he would get a swig of booze and then unsuccessfully demanding his money back when being told it was a 'dry day'.
Queuing up with Billy 'big ears' mcmahon and the beautiful Lady Sonia and kids for a ride on the Skyway. Well that's enough nostalgia for today.

Hamilton: the word 'condiminium' is not used in Australia. We just say a block of apartments or flats. Hopefully, this site is protected from that being government owned. Although with the rapists who are in power at the moment at a state level, I might have to review that opinon.

Mark: never can get too much of nostalgia. Love the bag of licorice and the use of the expression 'Blue Nun Moselle'.

Fox Studios must be right behind that gate so it probably remains closed for security these days.

I will go in and have a wander around on the inside!

that takes me back. I liked the old showground complex, much more atmosphere than the sterile new one at Homebush. Don't let the fact that its Government owned give you false security. Its all about money right now. Blue Nun - I remember that stuff. Does it still exist.

Yes, I much preferred this site to the newer one out at Homebush, although I am now able to find my way around out there too.

probably not often if it has the wrong name on it.

That must have been where I went to the Easter Show so many many years ago. Fancy still leaving the name there. Could be confusing for visitors. I see the 'people' you were telling us about in Sydney.

I have never felt at home with the Sydney Show in either location. Must be something about not having been there as a child. I wonder if I went to the Brisbane Ekka today whether I would like it.
